Black Tongue

GL and I were stricken with a killer flu last week. It was a real alien-invasion-in-your-body kind of sickness. Everyday was a different symptom - chills, fever, stomach on spin-cycle. Real good times. Imagine our surprise and horror when, on the 4th day of the sickness, we both woke up with a black tongue. Thinking it was surely the plague and we were minutes from death, GL was on wikipedia looking for black tongue and I was writing a will and agonizing about never traveling to China or wearing a real designer pair of shoes before I died. Our pretty pink tongues looked like we had spent a day licking the inside of an exhaust pipe. We kept sticking our tongues out at each other to see if it was really happening or if it was all a dream. Nope. Still black as a coal miner. The Wikipedia entry linked black tongue with hairy tongue. What? Next there would be black curlies on my tongue? Oh my god!?! I'm seriously dying. GL scrolled down and lo and behold....."Pepto Bismol  has been known to cause one's tongue and stool to turn black." Oh dear god. We'd overdosed on Pepto. Let this be a lesson to you, dear reader.....Prepare for a tongue that looks like you sucked on a Sharpie.
